4/9/2025 email follow up to county

All,

given the gravity of what happened to Magnus, his family and the Boulder biking community this case has been talked about up in Boulder heights as well since this is our greatest fear that this will happen yet again. While this isn’t competently avoidable the current decision by Boulder county to treat Lee Hill Drive in this manner is unforgivable. This will happen again and it will be Boulder County’s fault.

I was told that Lee Hill drive was unique so that was the reason for the extra signage and Bike May Use full lane sign only going westbound when I met the commissioners in person last week. It is not unique, I am a lifetime bike and motorcycle rider and know the county roads going into the mountains better than most after living here and riding these roads for 30 years.

This is a vague response with no data supporting the definition of unique and the incorrect use of the bike laws by allowing a bikes may use full lane designation on 4+ miles of road only going westbound. Again, this road is no different than other roads and this only makes one of the most dangerous roads now THE MOST DANGEROUS road with this designation.  You also state that bikes be single file and IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD per your signage (you covered up “in the curves” on your own sign. This isn’t a bike law, this is the county applying laws and adding their own ideas.

This needs to be fixed, someone will die and it is Boulder County’s fault. We do not want another life lost when it can be avoided.
